The Meet News: What to Know About Tuesday's Meet
Hi Hammerheads,
Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16, we have a home meet against the Kildaire Farms Killer Whales. FYI: Kildaire Farms has about 80 swimmers, similar to us, so the meet shouldn’t run too late!
Our coaching staff has already finalized lineups for the meet. If you need to make a last-minute change to your swimmer’s status, please contact our Coach Liaison, Steve Grosso, at 919-219-7474 and include both your name and your swimmer’s name in the message.
As a reminder, RSVPs for each Tuesday meet are due by the prior Sunday at noon. If you already know your swimmer’s availability for the rest of the season, feel free to RSVP for all remaining meets now.
OK—moving on to information about tomorrow’s meet!
Where: Carpenter Village Pool
When: Swimmers should arrive by 4:45 PM to check in. Warmups begin at 5:00 PM, and the meet starts at 6:00 PM.
Theme: Pirates and Mermaids
Each home meet this season has a theme, and swimmers are welcome to wear costumes over their swimsuits. Parents and family members—this includes you, too!
Swimmer Number:
At swimmer check-in, we will write your swimmer’s number on their arm with a Sharpie. No other writing should be on your swimmer during the meet.
We’re not trying to be fun killers—we promise! We love an “Eat My Bubbles” slogan as much as the next person. The issue is that writing on swimmers’ backs rubs off onto the pool chairs while they wait in lineups, which leaves black smears on the chairs and creates challenges with our neighbors. Thank you for helping us keep the pool in good shape for everyone.
Volunteers:
You should have already received a volunteer confirmation email from Emily Wallace, our Volunteer Coordinator, with your arrival time.
There will be a volunteer meeting at 5:45 PM near the American flag for TSA representatives, starters, stroke and turn judges, place judges, runners, timers, and clerks of course.
What to Wear / Bring:
Swimmers (consider labeling all items with your swimmer’s name):
- Team swimsuit, swim cap, goggles
- Two towels (one to sit on and one to dry off)
- Water and any desired snacks or drinks
- Something to do while waiting to swim (books, handheld card games, friendship bracelets, etc.)
Parents:
- Water and any desired snacks or drinks
- Consider bringing a chair. Some pool chairs will be used for swimmer lineups, so if you want a guaranteed comfy spot, bring one!
Leaving the Meet:
If your swimmer has finished all of their events, it is absolutely fine to leave before the meet ends. However, please double-check with your swimmer’s kid pusher first to confirm they are truly done for the evening. Swim meets can get confusing, and it helps avoid accidentally missing an event.
Coaches/Parents Relay:
Kildaire Farms is open to having a Coach/Parent Relay if time allows. Please reply to this email if you’re interested, and bring (or wear!) your swimsuit.
Coach/Parent relays usually take place after breaststroke, time permitting.
Concessions:
Concessions will be available if you don’t want to worry about packing dinner. We’ll have pizza, Chick-fil-A, snacks, drinks, ice cream, and Italian ice.
Concessions are one way we raise money for the team, so thank you for your support!
After the Meet:
It’s a Hammerheads tradition to gather for ice cream after home meets! If it’s not too late, we’ll head to Handel’s afterward to celebrate. Listen for an announcement at the end of the meet to confirm.
Before you leave the pool, please clean up your space (and your swimmer’s space).
