Swim Meet 101
- Before each swim meet, log into Swimtopia and mark whether your swimmer will attend or miss the meet. Coaches use this information to build event line-ups. If a swimmer is not marked as attending, they cannot be placed in the meet.
- For home meets: Warm-ups begin at 5:00 - Arrive by 4:45
- For away meets: Warm-ups begin at 5:30 - Arrive by 5:15
- Possible strokes per age group:
- 6 & Under: 15-yard Free, Back, Breast
- 7-8 and 9-10: 25-yard Free, Back, Breast, Fly plus 100-yd Medley and 100-yd Free Relays
- 11-2, 13-14, and 15-18: 50-yard Free, Back, Breast, Fly plus 200-yd Medley and 200-yd Free Relays
- TSA league meets have one Main Event heat (which counts for scoring/placing) per event. There are additional heats for all swimmers not swimming in a Main Event.
- No swimmer can be in all Main Events. 6 & Unders are limited to no more than 2 Main Events per meet, while swimmers aged 7 & Over are limited to no more than 3 Main Events per meet.
- Coaches determine how many events/strokes each swimmer will participate in at each meet. Not all swimmers swim all strokes at every meet.
- Relays are “winner take all”. Only first place receives points.
- Swimmers are divided by age into “camps” on the pool deck. Each group is assigned a “Kid Pusher” who line kids up and take them to the race Staging Area in time for their races.
- At the Staging Area, Clerks of Course ensure that the right swimmers are in the correct lanes and heats.
- Weather plays an inevitable role in our meets - it’s summer in the South! Meets will be halted and sometimes must be continued the following evening. It’s important to plan accordingly and know that, while we will always try to complete meets on the scheduled Tuesday night, we may need to return on the next evening.
